Website legal requirements · for gas engineers
A gas engineer’s website and Gas Safe.
Registration is the law; pretending to it is an offence.
Anyone who works on gas fittings must be competent, and a business doing gas work must be a member of the class of persons HSE approves; HSE sends customers to the Gas Safe Register to check an engineer. Falsely pretending to be a member is an offence, and showing a trust mark without authorisation is always unfair. The law doesn’t require a registration number on your website.

The rules for gas engineers
What the rules ask of your website.
Gas work needs competence and registration.
No one may carry out work on a gas fitting unless competent to do so, and employers and the self-employed doing gas work must be members of a class of persons approved by HSE. Plumbers who do no gas work aren’t covered.

Never pretend to be registered.
Falsely pretending to be a member of the approved class is an offence. On a website, that means no Gas Safe logo, triangle or number unless the business is registered for that work.
Law · Great Britain · Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, regulation 3(7)
No badge or membership you don’t hold.
Showing a trust mark, quality mark or equivalent without authorisation is always unfair, and so is claiming approval from a body when the claim is false or its terms aren’t being kept. Take a scheme’s logo off the site the day the membership ends.

Not on the list
What the rules don’t ask for.
A Gas Safe number on the website, by law.
Regulation 3 doesn’t ask you to publish it. HSE explains how customers can check a business’s registration number on the Gas Safe Register, so showing yours lets them check before they ring.
The three rules every business has still apply.
A price shown to the public includes VAT; a limited company shows its registered name, number and office; a site that takes enquiries says how it will use them. What every UK business website must show.
Questions
What gas engineers ask.
Do I have to show my Gas Safe number on my website?
The regulations don’t require it. They require registration for gas work and make it an offence to pretend to be registered.
Can I use the Gas Safe logo if my registration has lapsed?
No. Pretending to be a member is an offence, and showing a trust mark without authorisation is always an unfair practice.
