Website maintenance
Website maintenance, done when you send a message.
Most small business websites don't break. They go out of date: the old prices, last year's hours, the van you sold. We keep yours current: hosting, security, checks, and every change, made when you send us a message. One monthly price, no contract.
We look after websites on ThemeSmith. We don't log in to maintain a WordPress, Wix or Squarespace site hosted elsewhere. If yours is there, Site Rescue moves it across first, for £15 a page, paid once.
What does website maintenance actually cover?
Eight jobs keep a small business website working and accurate. With ThemeSmith they are all in the monthly plan; none of them is an extra.
| The job | What it means | With ThemeSmith |
|---|---|---|
| Hosting | Keeping the site online, on a server someone looks after. | On our global network. No separate hosting bill, and nothing for you to maintain. |
| Security | The padlock, and something in front of the site that stops attacks. | SSL on your own domain, and a web application firewall that blocks malicious requests before they reach the site. |
| Backups | A way back if a change goes wrong. | A restore point before every publish from your editor, so there is a copy of how it looked before. |
| Checks | Making sure a change hasn’t broken the page or the form. | Quality checks before anything goes live, on the first build and on every change afterwards. |
| Enquiries | The contact form actually reaching you. | Every enquiry from your site is emailed to you. |
| Updates | New prices, opening hours, photos, services. The part that goes out of date. | Send the change in your dashboard or on WhatsApp. We make it and put it live; most small edits are live in a minute or two. |
| Your domain | Your address, renewed every year, in your name. | Connect one you have, or buy one in your dashboard; each name shows its yearly price before you pay. |
| Someone to ask | A person who answers when something looks wrong. | Email support on every plan, and messages in your dashboard or on WhatsApp. |
How does a change get made?
No editor to log in to, no ticket and no waiting list. You say what you want changed, the way you'd say it to a colleague.
Send it
In your dashboard or on WhatsApp, whichever is nearer. “New Saturday hours, 9 till 1.” “Swap the van photo for this one.”
We make it, and check it
Quality checks run before anything goes live, and a restore point is saved before every publish from your editor.
It goes live
Most small edits are live in a minute or two, and the credits come off your plan's balance.
Chris, who founded ThemeSmith, ran a web agency for twenty years. There, a small change such as a new phone number carried a minimum fee, and could wait about two weeks behind bigger jobs. Maintenance by message is built so a phone number is a two-minute job, paid from a plan you already have.
What does it cost?
Two monthly plans, the same for everyone. The first month is free on either, there is no contract, and unused plan credits roll over to the next month.
Starter
For a site that rarely changes.
- Around ten small edits a month (150 credits)
- One site
- Top up any time if you need more
Business
For a site that changes often: new prices, new photos, this week’s news.
- Around thirty small edits a month (500 credits)
- Room for bigger jobs, like a new section or a gallery
- Up to three sites
| What a job uses | For example | Credits |
|---|---|---|
| A question | Is the contact form working? | about 3 |
| A small edit | A word, an opening time, a price or a photo. | about 15 |
| A new section | A price list, a gallery, a block about a new service. | about 75 |
Need more in a busy month? Top up any time: 125 credits for £12, 600 for £50 or 1,100 for £90. Bought credits never expire. We give 30 days' notice of any price change, and existing customers keep their price. The full price list →
Already have a website somewhere else?
Site Rescue moves it across. Give us the address and we read its pages, words, photographs and contact details, then rebuild it on ThemeSmith in a design you approve, on your own domain. Your blog posts and forms come across with it. You see the new home page first, and nothing else is built until you've said yes.
It is £15 for each page we rescue, paid once, including the first. After that it is looked after like any ThemeSmith site: free for the first month, then £15 a month.
What we don't do
- Maintain a site on another platform. No plugin updates on your WordPress, no editing inside your Wix account. Site Rescue moves the site to ThemeSmith instead.
- Promise a Google ranking. Every site is built ready for Google, and on your own domain we register it with Google Search Console and show you your search results. A ranking is not something anyone can honestly guarantee.
- Improve the site on our own. We change what you ask for. Work on a part of the service that improves sites by itself is under way; it is not here yet, and we will say when it is.
Questions about website maintenance
If yours isn't here, message us ↗ and we'll answer it.
- Do you maintain WordPress, Wix or Squarespace websites?
- No. We look after websites on ThemeSmith, so we can host them, check every change and put it live ourselves. If your site is on WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or anywhere else, Site Rescue rebuilds it on ThemeSmith first: we read its pages, words, photographs and contact details and rebuild it in a design you approve, on your own domain, for £15 a page, paid once.
- How much does website maintenance cost?
- With ThemeSmith, £15 a month on Starter, with around ten small edits a month, or £39 a month on Business, with around thirty and up to three sites. Both include hosting, SSL, a firewall, a restore point before every publish, quality checks and email support. The first month is free, there is no contract, and unused plan credits roll over.
- How quickly are changes made?
- Send the change in your dashboard or on WhatsApp and we make it and put it live. Most small edits are live in a minute or two, after the quality checks have run.
- What if I need more changes than my plan covers?
- Top up from your account: 125 credits for £12, 600 for £50 or 1,100 for £90. Bought credits never expire. If you change a lot every month, Business covers around thirty small edits.
- Will you improve my Google ranking?
- We don’t promise rankings. Every site is built ready for Google, with titles and descriptions, a sitemap and business structured data, and on your own domain we register it with Google Search Console and show you your search results in your dashboard.
- What happens if I stop paying?
- Cancel from your account. Your site stays online to the end of the period you’ve paid for, plus 30 days, and we email you at least 7 days before it goes offline. Going offline deletes nothing: we keep every file for 12 months, and if you resubscribe in that time the same site comes back.
A website that stays current, without you learning anything.
