Comparison

Can ChatGPT make a website for your business?

Yes. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini can each make a good-looking home page from a short description in a few minutes, and ChatGPT can now publish one with ChatGPT Sites.

With us: £74 for four pages, then £15 a month, your home page to look at in about twenty minutes, and you change it by sending a message.

So we asked all three to make home pages for three of our example businesses, with the same photos, and put the results beside ours. You pick the one you’d want, without knowing who made which.

Judge for yourself

Which one would you want?

For each business, four home pages: ours, and one each from ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, in a random order. Pick the one you’d want for your own business, then we’ll tell you who made each.

Built for every kind of business: see yours.

The change

Harbour Loaf’s home page names the day, and the day changes itself. The bakes change by message: send one, and the new board is shown to you before it goes live. A chatbot’s page changes when you prompt it again and publish it again.

On ThemeSmith, changes go by message, on WhatsApp or in your dashboard, and a real person reads them. If you’d rather talk it through, there is Done for you (£249, then £59 a month): a 30-minute call, and we make every decision.

The day name needs no message at all: the page reads the date, so today it reads Today’s bake. The message is an example, and the board is a re-creation of Harbour Loaf’s live page.

The form that says thank you

The pages we had each chatbot write, as files through each company’s model directly, included forms that look finished but send nothing: five of the nine have an enquiry form (Gemini 3, Claude 2, ChatGPT 0), and none of the nine sends what’s typed anywhere.

ChatGPT Sites has its own database and can collect what visitors type; then the visitors’ details, and the duties that come with them, are yours to manage. On a ThemeSmith site, enquiry forms reach you.

Claire replies personally, usually after 3:00pm when the rooms are quiet.

Thank you — your note is on Claire’s desk.

We’ve received your message and Claire will get back to you within a day or two to arrange a morning or afternoon for you both to come down the lane.

That is the whole journey. The page sent this nowhere and kept nothing. Claire does not exist, and if she did, she would never know you wrote.Page code: no form action, no send call.

Our copy here sends nothing either: it’s to show what happens.
03

Facts nobody gave them

Every maker got the same one line about each business and nothing else. On these pages, Gemini added an Ofsted registration number to the nursery, NAEA and ARLA Propertymark badges to the estate agent, and phone numbers that look like real local lines. It varies from page to page: Claude’s three pages here print no contact details, and on another business we tried, Claude printed a local phone number and an email address of its own.

Our showcase sites are examples we built, with sample reviews and contact details to show the finished look. A customer’s site is written from what the owner tells us: the build is only allowed to state the qualifications and contact details the owner gives.

What the first year costs

ThemeSmith, four pages

Read from themesmith.ai/pricing on 19 October 2026
  • Four pages, built£74£29 for the first page, £15 for each after. Two logo designs and a privacy page included.
  • Hosting, first monthfree
  • Hosting, months two to twelve£15 a monthStarter plan. About ten small edits a month, by message: a word, an opening time, a price or a photo.
  • First year£239

A domain name is extra if you don’t have one; each name shows its yearly price before you pay. No contract, cancel from your account. If you leave, your domain stays yours, and you can download the whole site as a .zip from your dashboard at any time.

ChatGPT, one published page

  • A paid ChatGPT plan, to publish£20 a monthPlus is £20 a month on ChatGPT’s UK pricing page, with Sites among its features. Nothing extra if you already pay for it.
  • A domain name, if you want your ownyearly feeSites publishes to a Site URL. You can connect a domain you already own; Sites doesn’t register one.
  • Your timeevery changeThe first build, then a new prompt and a republish each time something changes.

From chatgpt.com/pricing (UK, signed out) and the OpenAI Help Center article “Creating and using ChatGPT Sites”. Plans and prices change; check them on the day.

If you already pay for ChatGPT Plus, publishing a Site is part of what you pay for, so the chatbot route can be the cheaper one in money. It costs more of your time, and the time comes back with every change.

When a chatbot is the right choice

  1. You enjoy tinkering, and learning the tools is part of the fun.
  2. You need one page, and you don’t expect many enquiries through it.
  3. You’re happy to prompt and publish again each time something changes.

If that’s you, go and make one. If you’d rather it was built and looked after, that’s what we do.

Can ChatGPT make a website for my business?
Yes. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini can each make a good-looking home page from a short description, and ChatGPT can publish one with ChatGPT Sites. Sites is available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro accounts and supported Business and Enterprise workspaces, and it publishes to a Site URL. You can connect a domain you already own; Sites does not register one for you.
How much does it cost to make a website with ChatGPT?
ChatGPT’s UK pricing page lists Plus at £20 a month, with Sites among its features (read 17 October 2026). A domain is extra if you want your own. ThemeSmith is £74 for a four-page site, then £15 a month after a free first month: £239 in the first year.
Will the contact form on a chatbot-made page send me the enquiries?
Not on the pages we tested, which we had each chatbot write as a file, through each company’s model directly: five of the nine have an enquiry form (Gemini 3, Claude 2, ChatGPT 0), and none of the nine sends what is typed anywhere. ChatGPT Sites has its own database and can collect what visitors type; then the visitors’ details, and the duties that come with them, are yours to manage.
What happens when I want to change something later?
With a chatbot, you prompt again and publish again. With ThemeSmith, you send the change by message, on WhatsApp or in your dashboard, and a real person reads it. If you would rather talk it through, there is Done for you (£249, then £59 a month): a 30-minute call, and we make every decision.

How we ran it

A comparison is only worth reading if you can see how it was made.

Date
16 October 2026, one call each, no follow-up prompts, no edits.
Makers
ChatGPT (GPT-6.1 Sol), Claude (Opus 5.5) and Gemini (Gemini 4), each called directly through its own developer interface with the identical prompt below.
Not the apps
We did not use the ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini apps, so ChatGPT Sites was not part of this test. Pages made in the apps, with your own photos, would come out differently.
Ours
The live example sites, built through our normal process from a longer conversation about each business, not from one line.
Photos
The six photos on each of our example sites, made for them. Every chatbot got the same six file names. They were given the names, not the pictures, so they placed the photos by name.
Screenshots
Desktop first screen at 1440px wide, and the first two phone screens at 390px wide, taken 16 October 2026, unedited.
Forms
We read every page’s code for a form action or a send call, and filled in and submitted each form. Counted again from the code on 17 October 2026.
Details
We searched each page for phone numbers, email addresses, postcodes, coordinates and registration numbers, and checked each one on the screenshot.
ChatGPT Sites and plans
OpenAI Help Center, “Creating and using ChatGPT Sites”, and chatgpt.com/pricing (UK, signed out), both read 17 October 2026.
Your pick
Counted as a number against the business and the page you chose. Nothing about you is recorded.
The prompt, as sent, with the business line and photo names swapped per business
Design and build the home page for this business as a single self-contained HTML file (inline CSS and JS; Google Fonts allowed). Make it look exceptional — like a top independent studio designed it.
