For tutors
First Tutors has closed. Your families still need to find you.
First Tutors has closed, and Tutorful isn't taking new tutors at the moment. If most of your enquiries came through a profile there, that door has shut. A page of your own, in your name, is the one that stays open.
From £29, paid once, then £15 a month after a free first month. No contract.
Three things to do this week
Whatever you decide about directories, these keep the families you have.
Tell your current families how to reach you
A short message to each family with your own phone number or email, so a lesson change or a younger sibling doesn’t get lost with the old profile.
Keep what parents have said about you
If you saved messages or reviews from families, keep copies. Ask the ones you teach now for a Google review: it stays with you whatever happens to a directory.
Get one page that is yours
Your subjects and levels, what a lesson costs, when you have space, and how to get in touch. It’s the address you give families, and it’s in your name.
What parents look for on a tutor's page
We read 104 UK tutoring websites. Most list subjects and leave the rest to an email; only 17.3% showed what a lesson costs. A parent deciding between tutors wants the same four answers a directory profile used to give them:
- which subjects and levels you teach, and the exam boards if it matters;
- what a lesson costs, and what changes the price;
- where you teach, in person or online, and when you have space;
- what other parents say, in their own words.
More on what to put on a tutor website, with an example we built.
A tutor website, in your name, looked after for you
Tell us about your tutoring in a chat on our site or on WhatsApp: your subjects, your levels, your prices and when you teach. We write the words, make the photographs and draw two logo designs, and you approve it before it goes live on a domain registered in your name.
After that, a change is a message. New prices for the summer, a full Thursday, a GCSE group starting in January: send it, and we make the change and put it live. Enquiries from your site are emailed to you.
£29 for the first page, paid once, or £74 for four pages. Hosting is free for the first month, then £15 a month. No contract; cancel from your account.
Questions tutors are asking
If yours isn't here, message us ↗ and we'll answer it.
- Has First Tutors really closed?
- Yes. When we checked its website on 16 October 2026, it said that after more than 20 years of trading First Tutors had made the decision to close. Tutorful’s sign-up page said it is not taking new tutor applications at the moment.
- Can you move my First Tutors profile or reviews to my new site?
- No. We aren’t connected to First Tutors or Tutorful and can’t move a profile or its reviews. If you kept messages or reviews from families, we can put their words on your site with their permission, and families you teach now can leave you a Google review.
- Should I join another tutor directory instead?
- Maybe. Other directories are still open to new tutors, and many tutors keep a profile on one. A site of your own works alongside it: the address you give families, with your subjects and prices set out your way, on a domain in your name.
- What does a tutor website cost?
- With ThemeSmith, £29 for the first page, paid once, or £74 for four pages. Hosting is free for the first month, then £15 a month, with no contract. Changes are a message: send new prices or a term’s availability and we make the change.
- I don’t have a logo or photos. Is that a problem?
- No. Two logo designs come with every build, and the words and photographs are made for you from what you tell us. Swap in your own photos whenever you like.
Give your families an address that's yours.
Your subjects, your prices, your space this term, and parents' words. Changes are a message.
